Evaluation Question Plan

These are my initial ideas for my evaluation questions. I think the majority of my answers will be in video/vlog format as this is the format that I think I can do the most with in terms of presenting my answers to the questions.

Our Film Certificate

We've decided that if our film were to be made into a feature length film, the certificate would be a 15. This is because it has frequent strong language and possibly strong violence which would not be appropriate for a younger audience.

Iconic Moment

This is the screenshot we have chosen for the top of our questionnaire that will be given out in the media showcase on Monday 14th March.

I think its an iconic moment as it's the point where it is revealed that her sister has been watching the whole time.

Evaluation Questions

The questions for the evaluation are:

1  In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

2  How does your media product represent particular social groups?

3  What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

4  Who would be the audience for your media product?

5  How did you attract/address your audience?

6  What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

7  Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Feedback on Strong Language

We showed the rough drafts of both versions of our film opening to our peers and they all agreed that the version with strong language is better and makes more sense in the context. Therefore, we will be using the explicit version.

Title Decisions

We have picture locked on most of our film opening and have come up with a title, Heir. We had some initial ideas such as Revenge and Tamagotchi-U (which would reflect how young both of our main characters were.) but looking at our target audience of young adults, we wanted to come up with a title that would be more engaging and be less generic than "Revenge" and so would tell our potential audience more about the plot. So, in the end, with the help of feedback from our peers, we went with "Heir" as our title.

Shot List

We are filming tomorrow morning and so have written a list of the shots we want to get, as well as storyboarding them. We have also listed a couple of options for the same shot, so we have enough footage to edit with. I've put the shots we may want to put titles on in bold.

1. Bookshelf

12. Close up high angle on hands reaching into bag - put money in there
13. Handheld shot of girl walking to desk
14. Wide shot of girl walking to desk

CUT TO BLACK

We will have to do two versions of each of these shots for the clean and explicit versions of our opening.

Location

Today we were at my house for a location visit and began to think about how we would set up the filming as we shoot tomorrow. We decided to shoot the whole opening in my room as this would allow us to think about mise-en-scene in more detail.

Shot Inspiration- Phone Call

Our new idea involves a phone call and so we were looking at how phone calls were often filmed.

This shot is from YouTube short film "Strangers in a Bed". We want to use a close up like this in our opening.

Or like this shot from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".

We also want to use shots similar to the phone conversation in "Taken".

We want to use a low angle shot like this one

Script Version 2

We have now also done a clean version of our script.

Script Draft 1

Today we began work on our script. We plan to write two scripts, one with swearing and one without and then we will see which works best when editing. This is the swearing version.

First Storyboards

We began to storyboard our new film opening idea today.

Initial Ideas

We have been coming up with new ideas for our film opening. Here is a outline of our new plan. We will now storyboard these ideas.

Change of plans, again.

After editing all of our footage together we realised that the narrative of our opening isn't clear and there is no tension built up. So it's back to the drawing board. Again.

Editing Day 1- Tracking Shots

Today we began to edit our film opening. We wanted to have tracking shots in our opening, however the footage that we got of our protagonist walking out of the house was too shaky and we felt it gave off the feeling that the character was being followed, which is not the plot of our opening. So we are either going to completely scrap the tracking shot or re shoot it from the front of the character.
